Panasonic AV-HS400 HD Switcher |
If you are currently shooting in standard definition and in the 4X3 format your only option for airing on an HD station would be to letterbox (on the sides) and appear rather fuzzy compared to other HD programming on the same station. The public is buying HDTV sets almost exclusively and they are becoming extremely spoiled by the crystal clear pictures. |
The Solution:
- Begin to shoot now with Hi-Def cameras 16X9
- Provide a much clearer picture now to TV stations, even if they are not yet in HD 16X9
- On a standard definition TV station you would then appear letterboxed on the top and bottom (people are beginning to know that means the program provider is in HD 16X9) and you will look better that other programs because your original footage would be so much better.
- The old standard definition is 480i lines of resolution and 4X3
- The new HDTV is 1080i lines of resolution and 16X9
- It's only a matter of time and all stations will be HDTV and 16X9 if they are to compete.
- Old archival footage in SD 4X3 will be useless for future HDTV programming.
